More Firsts for Little Tiny

Ruby turned six weeks' old yesterday, the same day we stumbled on this morsel from the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child:

"Many parents find this time [about six weeks] particularly frustrating since many babies reach a peak of fussiness and wakefulness at about six weeks."

That's our Ruby! We're not frustrated -- her occasional smiles go a long way in parent-soothing -- but her previous three-hour spells of sleep, even during the day, are now 75 minutes if we're lucky. The longest night sleep has slipped from up to five hours to just over three.

Amidst all this wakefullness has come some firsts.

Last week we ventured out to meet Mai's knitting circle pals. A couple days later we tested the stroller -- heading first out to the exotic location of a breakfast, where we got a rare shot to eat out, then later Mai and Ruby went for a baby party at Lauren's, where she met up again with Lila and met Lisa and Stella. A day later John W and Joe G came over -- see Scandal reference below.

A couple days ago Ruby had her first snow day -- though we stayed in as winds swept along Eastern Parkway with temperatures dipping into the 20s. Hopefully we'll get snowball action this weekend.
